Who is AMCS?

The Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) is the voice for Australia's oceans. We work on behalf of the community to protect our ocean wildlife, make our fisheries sustainable and create places in the sea where our precious ocean animals are safe from harm.

AMCS is an independent charity. We are a committed group of professional and passionate scientists, educators and advocates who have defended Australia's oceans for over forty years.

Australians love the sea and we love our ocean wildlife, such as fur seals, humpback whales and sea turtles. If you want to help ensure Australia's coasts and oceans remain healthy and free for tomorrow's generations,
join us today.

Our Mission
To protect and celebrate our oceans and their wildlife through community education and action.
Our Beliefs
  • Out of respect for nature humans should seek to tread lightly on the Earth.
  • As humans our health and well being is intrinsically linked to the health and well being of the Earth.
  • As humans we should strive to leave the Earth to our children in a better condition than it was left to us.
  • All species from the blue whale to the tiniest crab deserve to live without fear of indiscriminate harm or extinction.
  • Our oceans should be celebrated and protected.
  • We never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it's the only thing that ever has (Margaret Mead).
  • The community has a right to be involved in decision-making. Good decision-making should be based on informed and considered opinions.
