Art for Sharks 2010 |
|
Art for Sharks is a major charity art auction, held each year to raise funds for our work to save our threatened marine wildlife, make our fisheries sustainable and create marine national parks, places in the sea where our turtles, sharks and seals are safe from harm. |

After three sold-out years in Brisbane, Art for Sharks 2010 was held in Melbourne in late July with great success.
Our 'Perfect Patron', Tim Winton joined AMCS supporters, Sea Guardians, business supporters, artists, and celebrities to make a plea for shark conservation. Sharks are in serious trouble across the globe, and Winton made the case that sharks should be treated as 'the new whales'.
To a spell-bound audience Winton said, "Victorians consume more shark meat than any other Australian population. It's worth considering how sustainable this pattern of consumption really is. Do we understand just how little fish we get with our fish and chips? Do we need to educate ourselves for our children's sake? Or will we literally eat ourselves out of house and home without a second thought?".
This year's Art for Sharks auction featured 50 stunning artworks - paintings, photography, sculpture and drawings - inspired by our vibrant and fragile marine environment and generously donated by some of Australia's most innovative and sought after artists including John Wolseley, Fiona and Tim McMonagle, Amanda Marburg, David Rosetzky, Rhys Lee and Mali Moir.
All proceeds from Art for Sharks will be channelled into our work to protect our precious sharks and other marine wildlife. |
